Snapshots from the Day

Scott and I spent just enough time in Epcot today for me to get a raging sunburn (roughly two hours). During that time, we had margaritas, saw butterflies in various stages, saw a duck family braving its way across the sidewalk, and saw some flowers.

We also saw something unexpected (besides the ducks). As we were leaving the butterfly tent, I noticed 50ish goobers standing across a pond from us, staring in our general direction and clapping and taking pictures. I looked at Scott and asked what the heck they were looking at, half expecting to see a celebrity behind us. Just then, one of the people working in the area asked if we were going to watch the shuttle. Sure enough, we turned around just in time to see the flash of orange disappear into the top of a magnolia tree. Thirty seconds later, I was distracted by the ducklings. It was strange though, all of the people just stopped where they were to watch. Some even clapped. It was sort of a unifying moment.

Anyway, here are some pictures from our adventure. The first three are the life cycle of a butterfly, from caterpillar to breaking free and learning to fly, to full-fledged awesomeness. Then some ducks. Then the margaritas.

Antici...

This is a pretty terrible picture, taken with my camera phone in the noontime bright sun.

It's a magnolia tree outside The Hotel, and it's absolutely covered in buds.

I hope they all bloom at the same time.

Won't that make a fabulous follow-up post?

Nature vs Nurture

One of the nicest things about living in a condo-type dwelling is that someone else takes care of our grass and flowerbeds. Scott and I discovered long ago that the only flowering plant we didn't kill was the basil, and that doesn't really count!

This flower to the left was planted outside our front door. I don't know what it is, but it seems to be in the daffodil/iris family. I bet that last sentence sounded really stupid to anyone who knows anything about flowers. Luckily for me, ignorance is bliss!

Amazingly enough, this isn't the only flower we have right now. It's the only type in the flowerbed, but we've also got two very different flowers blooming out in the pond...

Pardon me while I photo-geek out on the fact that you can see the spider web in the last picture!

I'm a huge fan of the wild flowers, but I'm glad we have the other ones too. And I appreciate the happy accident that lead to them all being coordinating colors!

It's a Math Day

Today is a math day. "Huh?" you say? It's simple. The date is 5-4-09, and 5+4=9. I love days like today.

Last night I came home and finished off the last of my orange sherbet. There's still Cool Whip in the freezer, but I don't intend to eat that by itself.

And now, a camera phone photo of some flowers that Scott bought me last week. He's so good to me! They are almost exactly the same as the ones I tried to buy myself for Secretaries Day before I realized I left my wallet at home.

Thank You, Scott!

A Haiku:
Yep, they are roses.
Yep, and they are orange too.
Yep, he does love me!
(and I love him too)
