Scratched Post

The living room scratching post has definitely seen better days. Of course, it's still serving us well - the furniture is still like new (except for the puke stains, but that's another story). We've had some lapses, but mostly the cats just get sprayed with the water bottle when they horseplay on the back of the couch or climb instead of jump.
I'm glad that we gave their claws a chance.
...and I'm knocking the end tables as I type this!

Some Random Photos

Elphie's opinion of the new scratching post: "Kill... kill... scratch... scratch... scratch... kill... kill..."
Milo: "Meh...I think perhaps I'd prefer to continue to use the love seat." (he won't tell you this himself, but he does love the scratching post. this might be because I've been rubbing it down every day with fresh catnip leaves...)
This was our first attempt at meatloaf cupcakes. Yeah, they look like big meatballs with potato caps, but they tasted good!
We learned that next time we need to bake them in those little disposable metal muffin tins so that they can maintain the cupcake look. Also, we were hungry and it was late so I didn't take the time to actually pipe the potatoes to make them look like frosting. Overall, I'd say it was as successful a first attempt as possible. I'm trying to perfect the technique so that I can do mini meatloaf muffins for the next potluck at work.

Still Progressing

The cable guyS were here yesterday to hook up the digital cable. Now we have hundreds of channels and nothing on. And even The Daily Show is in repeats, so there's no point in trying out the DVR.

On the bright side, Milo certainly enjoyed the visit from strangers yesterday. Especially since one of the strangers came with a box full of tiny plastic and metal things to bat around. I spent the entire time the guys were here trying to a) keep Milo out of the box of cable bits, b) trying to keep Milo out of the bedroom (since the guys were unfamiliar with the concept of keeping closed doors closed), c) checking to make sure Kilo was still alive and hadn't died in the corner from fright, d) keeping Milo out of the box of cable bits AGAIN!

Now that the cable is hooked up, we got the bookshelves and the TV where we want them. Of course, now we have to fit all of the books, photos, tapes, etc. back on the shelves. And I'm going to move the brown chair to the other wall to open up the entry a bit.

For now though, I have a headache. Again. Blah!

Evolution of a Living Room

I'm sorry to say that I neglected to take a picture with the old couch before the boys lugged it out of here (I did help, by the way -- I threw cushions down to Scott and I held the door for them). Anyway, here's a couple pictures of the living room in transition:

And what entry about furniture would be complete without a picture of Milo modeling said furniture?
For a mere loveseat, it's surprisingly roomy. I sprawled out on it last night while watching Stepford Wives. I guesstimate that it's about 5 feet long, judging by how much of my legs hang off the end. And it's pretty smushy. Not to mention, this thing has such a high back that Milo loves to perch up there. It's as tall as the back of the man-chair, but without that pesky rocking motion.

I think we'll keep it for a while.

Couch

I'm sitting here getting all misty over my couch. (OK, maybe I'm getting all misty because I lost an hour of sleep, but work with me here!) Today Scott and I are disposing of the second piece of my old sectional.

I got the old sectional back in 2002. I got it from Matthew, who only had it for a week (or something short). He had gotten it from Wayne, and his girlfriend threw a fit because she didn't like it. Wayne, father of 5, was getting rid of the couch because it was old and stained. But it was comfortable, and I didn't have any furniture.

Sadly, the sectional didn't fit in my studio apartment. It lived pushed together like a pit of cushions. And after Kilo peed on my bed, I slept on it for a few months.

We threw away half of the sectional when we "inherited" the man chair, the blue chair, and the ugly brown chair. The half that we still have has been peed on (in this house? no!), clawed up, and generally abused. And now it's going away to make room for a leather love seat that we're getting for free from the other Scott.

Goodbye, old stinky couch. Thanks for being free when I needed furniture.

uhhhhhh

What's with the title of this entry? That's the noise I'm making every few minutes. It's not so much an "ouch," which I associate with sharp pain. This is the low-grade all-over muscle ache and bruises on my hands associated with carrying a giant tv upstairs, building a new TV stand and carrying the old one down to the dumpster (after demolishing it).
On the bright side, we have a new TV. We were able to finally watch Chronicles of Narnia last night (we were saving it until we could see it). And we were even able to read the FBI warning at the beginning!

And check out the stand. I put it together almost by myself. Scott was my helper elf, but he carried that part up the stairs by himself and needed a break! I'm rather impressed with my ability to do "carpentry by numbers."

The TV, in case you were wondering, weighs about 115 lbs. It's so big that it wouldn't fit into Scott's car in the box... and there are no hand-holds built in. We almost died carrying it up stairs, or maybe it only felt that way because I was the one going backwards!

Today's project: grocery shopping. I have a funny feeling many of our purchases will be dictated by weight.
