Rationally, I understand that boycotting BP doesn't hurt BP as much as it hurts local station owners and workers and that's it's a pretty ineffective emotional response. But watching the first 2 minutes of this clip made me think maybe those local owners need to find a new company to be affiliated with.

It's obvious BP has really not bothered with the safety of its workers for a long time. And I really hope the Justice Department is able to nail them to the wall, take all of their money to clean up their mess, and shut them down.

...and now I am done with my own ineffective emotional response!

The situation is NOT funny. But when faced with the option of watching video of dead sea turtles (really - did you see ABC News last night?) or Jon Stewart singing West Side Story parodies, I choose the latter.

Daily Show Moment

The Daily Show last night reminded me why I don't even bother trying to watch news networks anymore. Too much ridiculous spin!

(the mockery starts around 5:15 if you don't have time for the full clip)

While we're at it, I'm not going to embed the video, but it's worth a look at the "Clash of the Cretins," where they debate whether Philly or New York has the 'douchiest' fans. Having grown up there, all I can say is, "yep...that's about right!"

Why I Heart Jon Stewart

After seeing the build-up to the Stewart-Cramer interview, there was no way I was going to miss last night's Daily Show. I expected the typical light-hearted poo slinging TDS interview, and was shocked by the three segment tongue lashing that I watched.

I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with truly intelligent analysis, so here's some bullet points:

  • Why is Jon Stewart the only one holding CNBC accountable for calling themselves journalists but not actually objectively reporting?
  • I would watch a real 6:30 news show anchored by Stewart. I realize he went to William & Mary and is incredibly intelligent, but I didn't realize he had it in him to do a real interview.
  • Actually, I think he did something similar to...umm...the super-religious presidential candidate whose name escapes me at the moment.
  • I'm really pissed off at every hedge fund and day trader playing around with my 401(k).
  • I'm also shocked at the CNBC commercial that they showed at the beginning of Part Two. "In Cramer We Trust?" Who is "we" and why do they trust him???

So that's it. I heart Jon Stewart. We already knew that. But after last night, I heart him even more!

Like Choosing Between Your Kids

I couldn't decide which Comedy Central political commentary from last night was more worthwhile to post here, so I'm posting two. No, I won't make a habit of posting multiple videos per day. I promise.

Why post this one? Oh, I think you'll figure it out around minute 2:20. (sure, no coverage on the "big 3" network news, but Jon Stewart is on the ball!)

The second is from the Colbert Report. It's so true I can't even laugh...

$OMG!

I forgot to update on this post. Believe it or not, the next tank of gas I bought was on Tuesday the 6th, and the price had only gone up to $3.55!

Since I guessed $3.60 and Janette guessed $3.61, that means I won back my own $5. I will buy myself a large un-sweet tea and some chicken nuggets with my winnings.

Sadly, I'm going to have to fill up tonight or tomorrow, and it's not looking pretty. Gas across the street was $3.65 when I got home last night, and the gas station close to work was $3.71! (note that I put those prices in the past tense... I'm rather afraid to find out what happened over night)

Enough of gas prices. Here's a video of the man I'm blaming for the gas prices (the part I like starts around 1:40):

Janette Help!!

Please talk numbers to me and tell me that H.R.C. still can't win the nomination...

I'm having trouble finding anything Obama-related that isn't about Reverend NutJob and I'm thinking if they don't muzzle this man he's not only going to scare away the undecided democrats, he's also going to give the republicans and independents a reason to not vote for Obama.

Thankfully, I still have Jon Stewart to get me through these tough times! (the link goes to the video in case it doesn't embed properly)
